Discovery Flight

This is where every pilot starts.

We will do about a 1 hour flight and spend around 1 hour on the ground discussing all aspects of flying and training.

Cost is usually 1 hour of flight and 2 hours of training. Typically $300 total. I provide all equipment and help you the entire time.

If you are nervous then it can be a very relaxed flight but if you are ready for a challenge you can fly the plane just a few minutes after we takeoff and start learning how to fly right away!

PRIVATE PILOT RATING

WANT TO FLY FOR FUN AND WITH YOUR FRIENDS?

The Private Pilot rating is your gateway into lunch at Catalina island, taking your family on the Bay tour, Heading up to Big Bear in under 2 hours and many more adventures.

CAN I REALLY?

-Be at least 17 by the time you take your check ride

-Be a U.S. citizen

(If you are not a US citizen I can help you get in contact with someone who can help you with flight training)

-Be able to get a 3rd class medical

-Be fluent in reading, writing and speaking English (yes there is a test)

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

If you study full time and fly 4 or 5 times a week you could get your whole rating completed in 3 months if everything goes perfectly

If you want to fly once or twice a week you could expect it to take 6 to 9 months or longer

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

The less often you fly the more it will cost, you will spend more time and money getting skills back that you lost being out of the plane for a week

At an absolute minimum you will need,

40 Flight hours (part 61)

30 hours of CFI time

Most people can expect to spend between $12000 and $18000

(Assuming you are paying around $150 for a plane and $75 per hour for CFI)

It may be possible to to be a little cheaper than that but plan on it being at least 10000 so that you dont end up having to stop training while your bank account catches up

Insturment Rating

WEATHER GOT YOU DOWN?

Being able to cross country and land safely when visibility fails opens up a massive opportunity to aviators. What really surprises new IFR rated pilots is how much better they are with airplane control and situational awareness. Even if you don’t plan to fly in the clouds an Instrument rating you will be a sharper and safer pilot.

WANT TO GET PAID TO FLY?

Weather you want to fly banners along the beach, teach students to be pilots or fly for the airlines you will need to get your Commercial pilot license.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

The Commercial requirements are a bit long and confusing in the FAR but basically you will need at least 250 total flight hours (part 61)

COST

(Assuming you are paying around $150 for a plane and $75 per hour for CFI)

NOTES

Even if you already have 250 hours in order to get your Commercial rating you will need to log the required hours with a CFI for the purposes of achieving your Commercial rating
